Cassandra Barcelo named ‘Remarkable Woman of Las Vegas’

LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — During the month of March, 8 News Now has shared stories about the remarkable women of southern Nevada. From more than 100 nominees, four women were selected as finalists, and on Tuesday, April 2, one of them, Cassandra Barcelo was named the “Remarkable Woman” from Las Vegas.

Barcelo was recognized for her work with youth with intellectual disabilities and the time she’s devoted to making their lives meaningful by finding careers that suit their strengths.

She will join a nationwide event recognizing women from cities across the country.

“Congratulations, Cassandra on being named Las Vegas’ Remarkable Woman of 2024. We know you spent 17 years teaching, focusing on special education, then you established Empower Us 4 Life, which provides jobs and careers for those with intellectual disabilities,” KLAS-TV General Manager Jay Howell said. “You ensure any person that comes to you is mentored and coached, paving the way for a supportive future.”

Barcelo also received video congratulations from CBS anchors Gayle King, Norah O’Donnell, and Las Vegas Mayor Carolyn Goodman.

Howell presented Barcelo with a check for $1,000 and wished her well at the upcoming event in Los Angeles to name the nation’s most “Remarkable Woman.”
