Driver arrested for DUI after hitting, killing pedestrian in southeast Las Vegas valley

LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — A pedestrian was struck and killed as he attempted to cross a road in southeast Las Vegas Sunday night. The driver involved is facing DUI-related charges.

The crash was reported around 8:45 p.m. on South Pecos Road, near East Mauls Avenue. According to the Las Vegas Metropolitan police, the 35-year-old man was crossing Pecos outside of a marked or implied crosswalk when he was struck and killed.

The driver, identified by police as 28-year-old Omar Gallegos, stayed at the scene and did display signs of impairment. He was placed under arrest and booked into the Clark County Detention Center.

Gallegos is scheduled to make an initial appearance in Las Vegas Justice Court Monday morning.

This death marks the 46th traffic-related fatality in Metro’s jurisdiction for 2024.
