LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — Carnival season wraps up today with the festive Mardi Gras, or Fat Tuesday celebration. It’s the last night of eating rich, fatty foods before the Lent fasting season begins. Those looking to indulge locally, have a few options around town.
“It kind of kicks off Mardi Gras, the beginning of January, and then for Fat Tuesday everyone loves to celebrate with a good King Cake,” said Victoria Herrera, the marketing director for Refined Hospitality.
“Then it kind of is the kickoff for Easter. So, the King Cake is just a part of that really fun, festival, carnival feeling.”
Saint Honoré Doughnuts and Beignets is a local pastry shop specializing in couture donuts. In honor of Fat Tuesday, the shop is offering the famous Mardi Gras king cakes and a beignet box as exclusive menu items.
“For Fat Tuesday, we serve a King cake which is a festive, elaborate donut,” Herrera said. “It’s our brioche dough rolled in cinnamon and sugar and then it’s glazed in vanilla frosting and then the traditional Mardi Gras colors with purple and green with a gold flake accent.”
The King Cake represents the three kings who brought gifts to baby Jesus. Saint Honoré offers beignets year-round in a pack of three. For Fat Tuesday, the pastry shop is offering a 15-pack of their powdered sugar and churro beignets complete with three dipping sauces – chocolate, caramel, and honey.
Tuesday is the last day you can pick up your King Cake from Saint Honoré. The King Cake and 15-pack beignets are available at all their locations while supplies last.
